To both tmon and high roller, click introduction (upper left of this page), and then click on Thoro-Pattern. Jerry describes what the Thoro-Patterns are and how to use them for handicapping purposes.
The upshot is that the type of Thoro-Pattern shown for each horse is determined by the its last three runs. However the pattern results shown were derived with horses matching certain criteria--same trainer all runs, same surface all runs, the last three runs within 42 days of previous start. (See JB explanation.) The nominal Thoro-Patterns shown for both Keyed Entry and One Way Flight do not pertain since both horses show intervening layoffs among their last three starts.
Sometimes the patterns apply and can a useful gauge of what to expect in the upcoming run. But sometimes they don't apply and should be disregarded. You, the handicapper, have to determine whether they apply in each case.
