Maybe, just maybe, a foundation of bone, tendon and sinew is necessary in the developing 3YO to get him through the Triple Crown Series. Maybe, just maybe, that foundation is best developed in racing a significant schedule at two and in a good prep run up at 3. Maybe as many as 10 starts or MORE before the Derby is the way to bring a horse to the Triple Crown. Of course, you have to breed a horse to handle that kind of runup. That means no near Mr. Prospector and a stout broodmare sire.

or

You can take the other road. You can breed Storm Cat and Mr. Prospector to weak mares and lobby for 8 week spacing between the Triple Crown races and hope one of the cripplebreds that ensue somehow manages to win all three of the races in that span of 16 weeks.

The Triple Crown was not designed to be won annually or bi-annually. If a Triple Crown winner is necessary to save horseracing, horseracing is already dead. A Triple Crown winner is no more necessary to the sport than an undefeated NFL team is to football. Sure they occasionally happen, but lets not cloud the issue by maintaining that level of domination is indispensible.

Its much better for betting, to beat the odds on horse, especially in the Triple Crown series. I lost with that type in Smarty and War Emblems Belmonts and despite the circumstances its good to turn the tables.

There will be Triple Crown winner again and he will be a wonderfully bred horse, unless the humanitarians have their way and their way will do nothing but ensure the devolvement of the animal.
