Grand Slam not so silly... (861 Views)

I've been carefully watching the Grand Slam bet at BEL... Two days in a row I got scratched out of my play, but Friday's was REALLY lucrative and an absolute drop-kick to hit...

R5: I lost Snitch to the scratch board, but Red Handed Robin (W) or Evening Edition (SH) were just as viable as the use...

R6: Distinctive Julia finished third...

R7: Used Oracle of Omaha as the single and he won...

R8: Used 3 possible winners as the closeout to the Grand Slam, and 9-2 Wait It Out was your winner...

The ticket was a 1x1x1x3 for $7 ($21 invested)... The price??? How about an amazing $255.00. UNBELIEVABLE...

So in other words, the $21 ticket returned $892.50. 40-1... And basically you only needed to have the third or fourth choice (Wait It Out) in the "clean up" slot to win this as it was easy to find a W-PL-SH horse in the first three legs!!

Some days the return has been paltry on this bet, but this was super-generous.. Read Steve Crist's column from last Sunday about the bet..

SUNDAY'S GRAND SLAM AT BELMONT (R5-8) FROM A T-G PERSPECTIVE

R5: $35k Clm, 1m-T, F&M-3+

1. #1 Morning Sky 3-1: Lake gal returns to straight claimers after breaking three race win run last

2. #11 Moorebella 5-2: Wondermare unbeatable of late but cutback a tough chore from lousy launch

A. #8 Urbane Hustle 7-2: Off board twice last 11, and trainer Walder damn savvy

B. #7 My Nina Rose 8-1: 9/1-3-2 on BEL lawn, Sciacca trainee close to Moorebella last time

R6: $17.5k Clm, 6.5f

1. #8 Gambling Native 4-1: Rudy R. a success with this 5yo Quick gelding: Right back

2. #4 Forli's Con Man 8-1: Terror at TAM gets .5f break trying front end: Will have company

A. #10 Bandit Nailhead 8-1: Like the claim move from Gullo to Levine who hits 28% first off tag

B. #1/1a Gullo entry (Little Red Rocket/The Midnight Skier) 5-2: Both sides of tandem rise in price and neither looks especially imposing in here

R7: $44k Alw/N1x, 1m, NYB F&M-3+

1. #3 Karakorum Starlet 5-2: Odinitz red came back from break running: Faces pressure from "Nibs", but otherwise figures tough

2. #1 Stellar Maiden 9-2: Galluscio bay just missed in comebacker and should sit trip on rail in slight cutback

A. #4 Stolen Star 6-1: Hot Kimmel sends Broman-bred Cat Thief daughter, away 100 days, off series of strong a.m. efforts; Offers value

B. #7 Her Royal Nibs 4-1: Formal Gold bay showed speed last before tiring: Cuts back a 'teenth here

R8: The Jaipur Handicap, Gr. III, 6f-T

1. #2 Not Phone 5-2: Record-setter in last looks for stallion-making stakes win for pal Lansdon Robbins

2. #8 Around the Cape 3-1: From our friends at Live Oak, Shakertown runner-up rarely miss-fires

A. #7 Primary Suspect 4-1: '05 Toboggan winner chased Spooky Mulder, Silver Train to good third last out

B. #1 Summer Service 5-1: Cross-entered at Philly, gelding a threat if he goes here

C. #6 Bold Decision 15-1: Nice number on state bred from slick LaFavers who won one yesterday

Grand Slam Play:

5th: 1 (opt: 11)
6th: 8 (opt. 4)
7th: 1 (opt. 3)
8th: 1-2-4-6-7-8

1x1x1x6 = 6 x $5 = $30

MON 10th: The Fort Monmouth (L), $65k, 8.5f, F&M-3+

1. #1 Toll Taker 9-2: One of our favorite fillies.. May be heading back in right direction

2. #2 No Sleep 3-1: Contessa expecting top effort from nice Robyn Dancer grey

A. #6 Blissful Ignorance 15-1: Value inclusion gets "1st time Chavez"... Potent angle

B. #4 Sis City 5-2: Figure this one wakes up at some point and Derby Day Gr. III turf try legs her up and was better than it looks

Met Mile tomorrow, plus stakes all over the country!! Enjoy the racing and continue to have a safe, pleasant Holiday Weekend!
