Well, clearly in the eyes of the Media and the Eclipse Voters he has done nothing wrong. He went off in the Breeders Cup Sprint as the Odds On favorite. He ran a solid, though solidly defeated race for the first time against quality competition and still won champion sprinter honors. Mission accomplished, the Peter Principle was victorious through management. During the winning streak the betting public was hoodwinked as well and that is why the odds were so juicy to beat him B.C. Day.
If you're trying to win sprint honors isn't it a helluva lot easier to find soft spots to run in, win, and pad out your resume? In that regard Gilchrist has been a wizard. Hes the Merlin of the Mirage.
Now on the other hand, if you have a first class animal, you point him for the traditonal tests of excellence. Like the Met...er..Vet Mile. Theres no way Foggy is gonna win that thing and is it any surprise the B.C.Sprint Victor won the Vet? Foggy isn't in that class. Pure, plain and simple. Gilchrist is trying to position himself as the best without taking on the best. Personally I depise that and I consider Gilchrist a charlatan. Hear that Greg? We are calling you out to defend yourself. Run in the Forego, Vosburgh and B.C. Sprint. Run vs the best and then we can discuss a legitimate championship. Or hide like an Ostrich with its head in the sand. The choice is yours.
Too Much Bling will melt Foggy down and clear everyones vision. Bling is heading to the Woody Stephens right? Where oh where did Dodge Fogster go, oh where oh where will he be? With his schedule light and his rivals measured, oh where, oh where will he be?
P.S., Tony, its always been my personal belief that Sunriver was Pletchers best horse this year. Hes no lock on breeding to get the Belmont, but he's certainly not a horse to dismiss lightly. Stated earlier that rarely do full sibling of quality come along. This appears to be one.
