Since I am a worse handicapper on dirt than I am on turf, I have been pleasantly surprised by the way desperate NYRA has aggressively utilized their turf courses this Spring. Weather permitting, these courses should be quite well chewed up by the middle of July.

Something about turf racing-- maybe its the added sensory aspect, the sound of hooves on turf. The card at Colonial today is abysmal(MCl 25, MCl 15, Cl 10, MSW, Cl 12.5, Cl 12.5, MCL 10, Cl 13, Cl 6.5 (dirt)), but the fact that 8 of these 9 events will be run on the turf gives the card an allure I will probably be unable to resist.

I would actually rather see the Rag v TG challenge take place at a meet such as Colonial. It would be interesting to see which product "handled" the turf better. I also think that Colonial, along with the Texas tracks and the NO Cal tracks, is at a "median" of sorts... somewhere halfway between the best and worst racing in North America.
