Dispite the rampant drugs and onerous takeouts....racing is actually gaining in popularity. The Triple Crown races generate interest from the general public. The Breeder's Cup Day is growing in popularity. There is far more racing on tv outlets than a decade ago. Attendance and pool size gains from ITW are generally growing when a quality product is presented As the baby boom generation retires and has more time on their hands....I suspect that a portion of that demographic will find horse racing a day or two per week. As Mr Durkin said in his Hall of Fame speech this past week. "these are the best of times" in racing. We all would like to see real reforms...but racing will survive anything. I am amazed how millions of dollars are dropped into mindless slot machines every month in this country.
