I was in Liverpool England last week on a sightseeing tour of Beatles history. My guide took me to the Casbah where the Beatles played 292 times. This is where the Beatles got their start.
The Casbah is in the basement of a home owned by the original Beatles drummer Pete Best and his brothers Rory and Roag. I met Rory there and hung out with him for about an hour. The home was purchased by their mother Mona Best after she went to the races one day in 1954 and put a few quid on a horse named "Never Say Die" ridden by a then unknown Lester Piggott. The horse won and paid a huge amount to win and so Mona bought the house. A few years later she turned the basement into the famoous club, where the Beatles got their start. The picture of Piggott and Never Say Die hangs on the wall as you enter the club.
Any Beatles fan should try to go see this place. It is well worth the expense.
Cheers!
