What in the world would be the edge in picking "dead" races?

We didn't want to do a poly race because of the randomness (Alan was kicking himself afterwards). The Chicago races had 4 and 5 horse fields and nothing interesting about them. The rain in California threatened to wash races off (and did). At least in NY, we could take a position against a short priced favorite (I say that based on my conversation with Alan beforehand, don't know if that's the way he wrote it).

There is some truth to the idea that nobody here wants to write paragraphs for a 12 horse field. You have no idea how much doing those 110 BC paragraphs takes out of me.

Anyway, my turn in the barrel next week for the Derby/Oaks seminar. I'm not going to give anything away, but I think this is a very straightforward betting Derby, with far fewer contenders than usual, sort of like 04 (SJ), but the prices should be better, because I'm willing to take a position against a couple that will take money.
