Interesting theory. When it comes to American racing, I’ve always given the best chance of beating the boys to fillies/mares on the lead – Winning Colors, Serena’s Song, etc. – thinking that American females aren’t used to racing amongst the boys, and they might be intimidated if they’re surrounded by a bunch of them. Best to just jet to the front and avoid the intimidation issue.
Euro fillies, on the other hand, routinely run with the boys, which – so my theory goes – lessens the intimidation factor. As such, racing in and among males isn’t such a big deal. Think Miesque, Six Perfections, Pebbles, etc.
