From a handicapping perspective, I'm not nearly as concerned about the pain blockers, though the fact is that Sneaky Peek did serve a suspension for a positive on painkillers. It is possible that Allday has found a way to get enhanced performances out of painkillers, or perhaps mask other agents, but to my mind all a painkiller can really do is enable a horse to get where its heart, lungs, muscle and blood can already take it. Without surprise, one can handicap painkillers my friends.

What I object to is Lawyer Ron performances. Situations where established levels of performance are clearly exceeded on doping and stratosphere figures result. That kind of doping involves primarily oxygen packing and secondarily lactic acid neutralization.

Steroids are the other consideration. However, you can't build muscle mass and think muscle mass alone will make a horse faster. With additional muscle a horse will need a bigger "oxygen pump" and also the stamina to resist the fatigue which will eventually set it. These are the issues handicappers need to be primarily concerned with.
