Ragozin/Thoro-Graph Breeders Cup Differences (1189 Views)

Okay, it's that time again. There are lots of differences, and lots of places where players will take different views of the different patterns on both. I'm just going to point out some of the major differences.
Distaff-- Starting out with a bang, any Ragozin player who spends even 5 minutes seriously looking can see that Ragozin blew the Beldame figure. The 3 fillies who come out of that race all got horrible figures, AND THEY RAN 1-2-3. How bad do you think the rest of the field ran? This is similar to the situation with the Schaeffer on Preakness day-- just for the hell of it, see what happens if you take off 4 points (on Ragozin) from all the fillies who ran in that race.
Juv. Fillies-- The big difference here is the "off race" on Storm Flag Flying (you know, the 13 length win in a grade 1, where Ragozin gave her a 12, 6 points worse than he gave her for winning a maiden race by a length. Read that again, and let it sink in-- she ran 8 points better than the second finisher in the stake.)
This was on the infamous 9/15 Belmont day (I told you so), but it's a real question as to what results Saturday make whom look good, since you could conceivably take a negative position on her off both, for different reasons.
Sprint-- Bonapaw looks much better on ours, due in part to a huge discrepency 2 starts back. Orientate and Xtra Heat also look better, with the California horses (Kona Gold, Disturbingthepeace, Kalookan Queen) looking faster as a group on Ragozin than they do on TG.
Juvenile-- Lots of differences here, but hard to see how they play out as a practical matter. Whywhywhy is strong on both, and comes out of the 9/15 Belmont day-- Ragozin gave him a big new top, because he tied the races together, despite the track being sealed and unsealed during racing, and a driving rainstorm starting during the later races. By doing this he was forced to give Storm Flag Flying the ridiculously bad figure, and Whywhywhy the new top.
Classic-- Came Home and Milwaulkee Brew look a little better on Ragozin, E Dubai and Volponi look better on TG.

I might come back with more later tonight after Friedman posts their Euro numbers. I'm flying to Chicago tomorrow afternoon, so after tonight I won't be posting again until Monday.
