Chris: They're also looking into unusual circumstances involving several large Pik ^ carryovers at Saratoga.
I understand the "cycling" required for odds boards and the like, it would be insane, but not having instant odds on the board just after the bell is ludicrous. I've seen them on ocassion "cycle" through twice during the course of a race. The grumbling in the crowd at OTB's and simulcast centers watching the odds change during the race is BAD for racing and undermines the integrity issue constantly. If Gallop polled folks about racing integrity, what % would say racing is fixed and that horses are drugged? 80%+ I'd say and that's the rub here.
The integrity issue is being won, hands down, by the casinos. How many people would be flocking there if they thought the various games were rigged? I'm not saying racing will enjoy rapid increases in attendance and $$$ put through the windows if they clean up their act (it's a difficult game that most are happy to ignore, too much thinking involved) but it wouldn't hurt.
