The surprise, although it shouldn't be one, is the sad state of affairs in what passes for investigative journalism in this country. Of all the articles written, only one author, Greg Sandoval of the Wash Post, bothered to take the time to contact an expert who, in addition to confirming that all digital computer systems are subject to attack, indicated that "in many cases hackers are aided in their efforts by people with inside information." What I still want to know & this initial press release doesn't address is exactly how they did it, whether others were involved, whether they did it previously, whether Scientific Games turned this guy over to the feds when it turned over its findings, how long before Davis is arrested, when are their assests & bank accts going to be frozen etc, etc. I also want to know how long before Groth & Pierce(it couldn't happen at Autotote) are demoted to a job equivalent to cleaning the restrooms at an OTB. Strike that. Most of the people who do that kind of job are honest hardworking immigrants trying to make some kind of a living, not political hacks and/or execs who are too stupid to have even a mild understanding or familiarity with the businesses they are supposed to be in charge of.
