So, let me get this straight:
Three guys figure out a way to guarantee a winning Pick 6 bet changing the numbers on the tickets due to a 5-race delay in sending the actual betting information to the on-track computers.
And the response of some tracks is to:
1) Close the betting windows early for every race (except for on-track bettors in NY) and
2) Ban P6, P4 and (in some cases) superfecta betting
These reactions make about as much sense as the airlines replacing metal knives with plastic in silverware kits and banning nail clippers.
Just as with the airlines, the issue is with security -- an expensive and complex problem to solve, and doing something for the sake of doing something is often worse than doing nothing.
