We are looking at this, and probably will do it somewhere down the line. Negatives are that the market is probably not that big, and where do you put it (side product)? For the immediate future we are going to focus our manpower on other things, but later on... I was actually hoping that Ragozin would do this when he starts selling on-line, so I could get a feeling for the market, but it doesn't look like he will.
I had some discussions with Chris (Derby 1592) about related studies, and the big problem concerns "exceptions"-- 2 patterns are the same except for the time between races, surface, age, gender etc. Chris was looking at doing studies of patterns in general (not by individual trainer), and even there I was convinced the samples would be small because of the exceptions (Chris, you should call me-- I think we are getting to the point where we can give this more of a shot). Broken out by trainer, the sampling for patterns such as you describe would be very small, and statistically meaningless. If we do it we will study broader questions-- first to second out lifetime, second off a layoff, first off a claim, first lasix etc.
