On Toccet, whose ankle "injury" is apparently a lot less serious than initially thought. The problem is actually bone remodeling, which I understand to be a condition which results when bone density forms faster than bone absorption, in humans sometimes referred to as growing pains. One prominent vet described the condition as equivalent to a minor case of bucked shins, which we all know is a very common problem among 2 yr olds. Both Scanlan and Borislow, who I'm told is a pretty savvy dopester in his own right, say that Toccet is making no bones about the fact that he wants to be back on the track, leading me to believe that it is not yet clear who is right: The owner & trainer, who say that Toccet is a very sound ironhorse, a throwback to the days when horses thrived on racing; or the many sheet players who seemed to me very quick to proclaim that his 2 yr campaign was too much, too soon, too fast, too often, etc., even though his BC loss took place when he drew post 13, and even though his much anticipated "bounce" in the Hollywood Futurity intead demonstrated just how tough he really is. Besides, it sure wouldn't hurt the industry any if Toccet happened to complete a sweep of the TC races just before the release of Seabiscuit, would it?
