The idea of creating a summer, "Major League" racing season with tour stops at major racing venues is a fresh idea that now appears to be gaining some real traction.
I particularly like this "stringent medication rules" quote from one of the major backers, Robert McNair (owner of Congaree and other horses):
"Owners also plan to emphasize some of their political positions in the venture. Handicap races would not be included in the Tour, which would embrace only weight-for-age events, and stringent medication rules would be enforced," Metzger and McNair said.
I am hoping that they will establish some very strong and consistent medication rules (and testing/penalties) that apply to all horses participating on the tour regardless of what racing jurisdiction they are running within. It would be great if this carried over into the BC and TC and maybe even all graded stakes.
This could be a big step forward for racing on several fronts. I applaud McNair (Mall - Does this make up for the Congaree posts?) and the others that are leading this effort and I hope they are successful.
Any other opinions on this topic?
Chris
