Time to become "just a fan" for a day (1051 Views)

I doubt there will be much value playing the Belmont anyway but I think I may just sit back and become a cheerleader for a horse that might just "catch the imagination of the country."

A gelding owned by a group of regular guys (most of them anyway) who actually rode down to the Derby on a school bus.

A horse that, if we are lucky, we can be cheering for (and betting against) for years to come.

A horse that they may be able to make a movie about some day...

Thanks to Funny Cide's run at the Triple Crown, "buzzergate" and the upcoming Sea Biscuit movie, this could be the biggest shot in the arm racing has had in a long time.

Of course, the biggest test is still to come. I am hoping that the rest of the Preakness field fell apart and that Funny Cide did not run a monster fig despite the large margin of victory. I was a little disappointed that he was hard ridden even after the outcome was no longer in doubt. He may need all of those reserves and then some in the Belmont.

In the mean time we will have to wait three weeks to find out if there will be a "classic" storybook ending. I will definitely be cheering for one...

Chris
