Missed the lead change again Mark, but I was watching on the computer. I can't say the number of times I've seen a horse get rank in a workout and then come to the track and be unmanagable. Bailey said Funny was fighting Jose right from the gate. I saw the same thing...he wouldn't cover up and wouldn't leave something to shoot at. I just think Funny worked himself out of a true effort. For whatever reason he was a different horse on his home track than he was in the Derby and Preakness. He wanted to run too soon. To his credit he was only beat 5 lengths. Thats really not too much at that distance. He hung in there. But I think the fade started at 10 marks and thats what I was afraid of. I actually foresaw the change of pace for him, but I thought he was good enough to wire them. He wasn't. I hope he gets back to being a horse that will rate. Thats him at his best. We'll see if he's better than Empire Maker later in the year. I still think he is, but we'll see.
We'll have to wait and see what the fig makers make of the Belmont and Funny's effort. I haven't ruled out that he ran his race and didn't handle the 12 marks I was sure he would.
I lost money, but Dang I'm more bummed this horse didn't win the Crown.
