We don't sell the simulcast books at the Meadowlands because Jake begged us not to.
Kidding, Jake. Relax.
It's a business decision. The simulcast books are sold at
1-- places where there is live racing, and the live track is sold separately as a full priced set of sheets
2-- smaller simulcast locations where we previously had to send about 5 copies of lots of tracks, not knowing on a given day whether we would sell one Laurel or five. Our print costs are high-- we put out far more data than anyone else (with more on the way), which means each horse takes up a full page, plus we have binding costs for each set. The simulcast books, because they have 3 horses per page, dramatically lower those costs, and since shipping costs are based on package weight, lower those as well.
The Meadowlands is a different story. First of all, it gets very serious players who play lots of tracks, and is the biggest sales site in the country (partly because they are smart enough to buy our data and comp it to those who bet serious money. They are not the only ones who do this-- talk to your local site to see whether they do, and if they don't, suggest they should). Our percentage of sales versus unsold sets is much better at the Meadowlands (it's easier to figure out how many to send) so it's worth sending full sets, and a lot of the serious players want all the data, not just the 80% or so in the Thoroquick. Additionally, we have our own driver who delivers there and throughout the metropolitan area, so package weight is not an issue.
I would add that we have done a hell of a job of keeping prices reasonable for a very long time. We provide more data than the competition, more accurate data, and do it cheaper.
