Bute On And Off. (509 Views)

You probably already considered this, but I'm fairly certain that the bute information in drf & brisnet(from equibase?) has more to do with whether or not the racing jurisdiction requires that one report its use than it does with whether or not the horse raced on bute. Using today's 8th race at SA as an example, there is no indication that shipper Global Image raced on bute at Hst, even though Hst has the exact same 5 micrograms of bute per milliliter of serum or plasma rule as SA. The difference is that SA adds the additional requirement that you also must declare on the entry form that your horse received bute. I assume that's where the information that every other Calif horse in the race has always raced on bute came from. I don't think you can assume that Global Image did not race on bute before today because unlike SA, Hst's rule does not require that bute use be reported, only that the horse not exceed the threshold. I'm fairly certain this situation is fairly common.(I think, but am not certain, that Hoo & PrM may be tracks which follow the SA approach.)
