Derby Draw (692 Views)

The amount of speed signed up should make the Derby draw interesting. I'm thinking of

Smarty Jones
Lion Heart
Quintons Gold Rush
Sinister G (if he shows)
Pollard's Vision
Read The Footnotes
Value Plus (highly unlikely to go)

Will there be a battle among the speed horses for outside posts as they all seek to track and pounce (as Smarty Jones did in the Rebel and Arkansas Derby) and risk being 4 or 5 wide going into the first turn (a la Proud Citizen in the Preakness)? Pletcher has already said he wants Pollard's Vision to be outside because of his vision problems, but that he will also seek an outside post for Limehouse.

Will anyone annnounce that he is going to the front (to dissuade others from also sending) and take a post further inside? I seem to recall that Baffert made such an announcement with War Emblem (I think he broke from the 10 hole).

Will any of the speed take an inside post and seek to drop over on the rail to save ground and track the pace from there? This would be a Funny Cide trip and is also what Read The Footnotes tried to do in the Florida Derby.
