Nice post. I've always been a firm believer that certain distances translate better to other distances. For example winners at 7f or a mile translate better to a 1 1/4 than say 1 mile and 70, or a 1 1/16th. Perhaps it has something to do with the pace but I certainly do not want to get into that discussion here.
Woody Stephens liked horses that ran well at 1 1/16th when asked to who was more likely to run well at a 1 1/2 (what would he know---he only won 5 of them).
If one looks at the TG archives, there's something to what Woody was saying. See D'Tara, Union Rags, Sarava, Paynter (game second), Palice Malice, Oxbow (second), Ruler On Ice, Stay Thirsty (second), Rags to Riches, Curlin (second), Bluegrass Cat (second), Birdstone, Touch Gold.
Good Luck,
Joe B.
