The head on of the stretch run is pure comedy, one jock drops the whip, loses an iron and pulls his horse up, another was doing all he could to keep his horse out of the trifecta and it still got up by a nose for 3rd when a non-fixed runner just stops. That jock probably made a "note to self" after the race noting that if you are going to fix a race make sure the horses still "competing" can stand up.

fwiw, two of the three stiffed horses came back a week later, with different riders, to run 1-2. The Patin clan probably cashed more on that race than the one they tried to fix.
