Derby Day 1973. That was my first day at the races. (Thoroughbred, anyway- can't really count Lebanon Raceway as real horse racing). Literally a month of Derby Days since then. But while I did bet Sham, I did learn the value of a pre-derby regression in the Wood. I wonder what Big Red's TG numbers were in the Gotham, Wood, and Derby. And BTW, let's not forget that Sham also broke 2:00 for the Derby race, though finishing second. I always hear how Monarchos is the only other horse to break the 2:00 barrier, but that is not really accurate.

And at least I still have a souvenir of the race (albeit a losing ticket).

Old Mr. B. (need to be careful on this board with a handle like that). Haven't heard that name in a while. Better go get some coffee.
