Unfortunate injury for IRAP. He's always been a game colt and that sharp and awkward left turn coming off the turn might have contributed to the injury. After being vanned off, the DRF reports - Doug O'Neill later texted that "Irap was resting comfortably in his stall and has an appointment Monday morning at the New Bolton Center with Dr. Dean Richardson to surgically repair his left front sesamoids. Prognosis is good."
West Coast looked like Pegasus (without wings) coming back after the finish. As BB said he has really filled out and is, imo. a handsome animal. If that colt was fatigued in any way I couldn't see it. Guessing this performance was comparable to his Travers race. Nice to see Nick Zito get a share of the purse money, I'm pretty certain there is no Indian Medicine Man in his stable.
Baffert's stable is making my head spin. Today Divining Rod ran a good 2nd to Sharp Azteca further complimenting Drefong a few weeks back. Hoppertunity is back working out like a sprinter, I wonder where he's headed. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me to send more than three to the Classic.
Cupid is the puzzle to me, I don't think 1+1/4 is his best distance and I also suspect we haven't yet seen his best. The way his stablemates are jumping up Sheesh. Maybe the dirt mile.
In any event shipping out to SoCal from East of the Mississippi (other than turf runners) seems kinda pointless right now. I don't even know who his 2 y/o's are but I'm sure I will.
BB's dominance is literally unbelievably and that is the shame. The beat goes on!
