I made a trip out to Arlington Park today because some guy told me the toteboard and barns had already been demolished.
I couldn't believe it, so I went out to take look for myself. I'm happy to report that the Grand Old Lady is still standing... and so is the toteboard and barns.
Before I left I took a photo of Barn 9A
When I posted the link to the Pajeen Delp story I didn't realize until later that the photo of her on the pony was in front of this barn ... Barn 9A.
I worked at that barn for a couple of years around the mid 80's and we shared the barn with Bud Delp. I never recall seeing Pajeen there in the morning.
It was also at this barn that I encountered one of the most impressive looking thoroughbreds I had ever seen .... TELEPROMPTER.
There's a horse path right in front of Barn 9A leading to the track. He can down the path one morning and I was just amazed at what I was looking at. His chest was just massive.
Unfortunately the impression he made on me in the morning didn't translate to the afternoon at the betting windows. I bet against TELEPROMPTER in the Million that year. I was in love with Charlie Whittingham's GREINTON.
