Prist ok you went back far enough to stir some memories.
My friend Pooch, retired Baltimore PD and no longer with us, rubbed Aspro at
Fairgrounds. Aspro was a very steady handicap horse at FG and I seem to recall
he was bred in Colorado. At Laurel or Bowie, Aspro was second to Truly Bound, a
Delp filly by In Reality who was a tough two year old at AP, won the FG Oaks
and then was second to Heavenly Cause in the Ky Oaks.
Fairgrounds ownership..the Dorignacs, maybe Louie Roussel and hidden owner Dr.
Alex Harthill were very anxious to have Bud Delp winter at FG. They gave Bud a
nice barn near the quarter pole, near Doc Harthill's barn. The Doc's barn was
surrounded by an eight foot high chain link and barbed wire fence.
Other inducements offered to Bud Delp were allegedly an open tab at Pascale's
Manale and a rented house for contract rider Ronnie Franklin and Delp's
exercise riders to destroy.
Delp's number two man was Charlie Bettis, who was a bit of a character and was
off on his own in Chi town for a couple of years
