The Preakness Generally (666 Views)

For the horses coming from the Derby should I disregard the KD and their performances? One of the voices in my head says NO The KD is the single most important source of data in solving the Pimlico puzzle. Another voice says no the derby was such an anomaly as to have no bearing on Saturday's Preakness.

What do I think I know? What do I think I don't know? What am I sure I don't know?

1. Simplification - While the horse ran a better Derby than most expected JR apparently misjudged the finish line by a quarter of a mile. Maybe other factors complicate this story?

2. Creative Minister - A lightly raced colt who may need a rest or be ready to improve further. Running style does not seem a liability to me if he can endure the distance?

3. Fenwick - Bred by John Oxley. The Derby again proved any entrant can win. Likely to remain under the radar.

4. Secret Oath - A filly on short rest that is virtually certain to lose some ground so add a couple of points on your projection.

5. Early Voting - You'd think the Chadster could teach this horse to rate some? Obvious contender, for most.

6. Happy Jack - It's a little unclear what Calumet sees in this colt except I think his sire stands there. 30/1 acclimated to heat, with improvement possible.

7. Armagnac - A solid underachiever, yet I like his breeding. Could be a colt that just doesn't like to race in the classic Bullet Bob go-to-the-front style. New connections could surprise 12/1, not a terrible price.

8. Epicenter - Binary!

9. Skippylongstocking - Didn't Exaggerator win the Preakness? Another acclimated to the heat. Seemingly a must-use in the verticals.
