Back in the day before you could get the racing form PPs days in advance, for those of us who lived close enough to Belmont, the DRF would arrive some time between 9 & 10 at a deli across the street from Belmont the night before. I used to make the drive at night often, 1st while I lived at my parents house 7 miles away & even from my Suffolk county apt 35 miles away. A lot of times in better weather we'd be standing on the sidewalk outside waiting for the guy in a car with NJ plates to show up & then we'd go inside & wait for them to start selling the forms inside. Other times we'd wait inside. I remember seeing Angel Cordero show up to get his form & the late trainer,Bob Lake, who lived in Hempstead at the time, was a regular.
Other times I would race to Belmont at the end of the work day & buy the Advanced Edition at the track before the final race of the day. If I couldn't make it to Elmont, there was Roosevelt Raceway where I could get the next day's form in the middle of that night's harness card.
