Various Tidbits As Spa and Del Mar Approach (434 Views)

Long weekend and plenty of time to think about horse racing led to various tidbits I'll share. No rhyme or reason to much of this so take it fwiw as they say. But with the two big summer meets approaching, enthusiasm is high although I know my ROI would probably be better at Ellis than Spa or DM.

1. Baffert suspension from KHRC is over and you will see him back . . . .well except in NY.

2. Looking for 65% winners at the Spa? Look no further than Chad Brown at Odds On. At Belmont, before today, he was 17 for 26 at the meet with Odds On horses.

3. Texas and HISA can't seem to get along. Texas is going to give it a go on their own and as Tavasco posted, the handle is "slightly" down. How quickly will this get worked out?

4. Churchill's meet ending this weekend and it is just too bad their turf course became a complete and total debacle. If only they had a world class turf course somewhere else in the Midwest where horses could have run on their surface preference. I do wonder if the Kentucky contingent sends more turf horses this summer to the Spa to make for fuller fields.

5. Rumors that Churchill and a local casino are both interested in purchasing Fairmount Park. For those looking from afar, Fan Duel only purchased naming rights and have a room in the place for Sports Betting. You can guess which one people who attend live racing at Fairmount are hoping does not end up with the track. They have the right to slots via license is the attraction of the place to be purchased.

6. Whitney is shaping up to be a heck of a backyard collection. Nearly every TG member says they will be there. My performance will likely be greatly compromised as I have only consumed about 8 Bud Light's since Preakness Day. I'll need a super trainer to get me ready off the bench and I'm banking on Uncle Bill to be the guy to make it happen. He will have the snacks ready to go with the Bud Light's flowing. If he is there with snacks in tow, we will go for a record number of Bud Light's that day and evening....fuzzy memories suggest 31 was once accomplished on a big stakes eve once upon a time pre-Covid. A hotel shuttle was hi-jacked by Spa's most famous backyard member well past midnight as I recall for a tour of the town. I made it to bed about 4:30 a.m. And I still made it for the TG Seminar at 9 am on Travers Day the next morning. 31 is probably Safe now that I think about it.

7. Speaking of the Whitney, Olympiad plans to run there against Life is Good. Olympiad has won 4 dirt graded stakes around two turns in a row. My research capabilities are lacking here, but I'm curious, who is the last older dirt horse to accomplish a 4 race win streak around 2 turns? It is pretty rare these days to see long streaks esp on dirt at graded stakes level. If anyone can let me know what they come up with I'd be appreciative.

I am working on a little pick 5 research for the Del Mar and Saratoga meets that I'll share in a bit. Nothing Earth shattering but might of interest to those of you that play the pick 5's at either place. I should have it up later this evening.
