If Canani's headed to hell, where does
the Sweet Cat go? Jerkens and Mott also
train for Wygod, but both have avoided
Trip Crown races in the past. Who else
trains for Wygod in Cal?
My take on Baffert: A scaled down Lukas.
Success in the Triple Crown races.
Success with 2YOs. Access to lush
owner bankrolls. Will we ever see
him train a top notch older handicap
horse? Will he ever be remembered for
an extended run (like over a couple of
years) with a great older turf horse?.
Unfair to say one dimensional, just
not well rounded. Maybe he doesn't
need to be. Successful absolutely.
Three trainers who I have known to
be well rounded: Whittingham, Mott
and Jerkens have shown a real
aversion towards the Triple Crown
races. Charlie seemed to have
acquired a taste for it later in life.
Not all trainers have patience for the
disruption of their routine, which
consists primarily of watching their
animals very closely.
If great trainers train day to day,
none of them likes to be given a
schedule in January for races in
May, especially when the schedule calls
for 3 challenging races in 6 weeks.
Baffert has a triple crown schedule
which begins when the hammer drops.
