Richie,
Theres some merit to what your saying. A lot of what I say is based upon impression. You develope it on anecdotal experiences. I'd just point out the following horses.
Silver Charm- I think he had a handicap career.
Conagree-Ran for three or four years
Real Quiet- Got injured, got time and got back to the races for more Graded Wins.
Captain Steve- Well spotted perhaps, but a winner for multiple years
Thirty Slews- This one was one of Baffert's best deals.
Theres a lot of others. Maybe Baffert doesn't get real long careers, but you rarely see a guy like Lukas running for extended campaigns. (Cat Thief must have been made of steel.)I will grant that the above horses, maybe with the expection of Conagree where cheaper "lesser" pedigree types and maybe not real fashionable in today's market to rush to retirement. Baffert doesnt worry about "fashion"....he looks for solid pedigree and conformation that he knows will work. FuRok...835K for a Wild Wonder?...lol How close do you think Lukas would have got to being able to see something solid there?
I think Baffert is going to set all the records. He's had four Triple Crown Classic winners and each have have knocked down two legs and a couple almost won the dang thing and one probably should of. He's 50 about. Lukas 70. The next twenty years look bright for Baffert. You need luck. But his history with a Batonnier, A Silver Buck, A Quiet American and an Our Emblem, can't be ignored. He got alot outta Captain Steve too. He's the real deal, Lukas has a nice resume. Theres a difference.
