The market for 3yos is insane right now, I would love to hear what Stonerside paid. From what I heard the connections of Scrappy T turned down mid six figures (he's a GELDING), Naughty New Yorker's connections turned down 7 figures. There are several other insane ones I've heard, too. Looks like we got a great deal with Santana Strings (200k), and the private purchase maiden pointed for the Capposella at Aqu that I believe was "sheets connected" (in this case, almost definitely for real) was probably a good buy as well, depending on what they paid for it. At 200, excellent value, at 400 fair value, etc.
CH-- I respect a lot of your opinions, but you are missing the point(s). It's not about you, and your betting. There are people who are competing against these guys, and others of us who don't want to have to guess, or want to be able to use the skills we have developed to predict natural form cycles. Also, you keep focusing on individual jump-up performances-- my point is that we don't do that. We look at large bodies of data. We have set up a program here to do exactly that, for when I am considering rcommending a horse for purchase-- we can look at all of any trainer's starters for any time period, to see what happens for them compared to those who had the horses before and after.
As for paying attention to how trainer's runners are doing over a time period versus another time period in deciding whether something is or was going on-- if you think Scettino's runners are doing now what they were doing last summer, or if you think Dutrow's horses ran the same at Saratoga as at the Belmont meet that followed, or that Lake got the same results he gets other places IN TERMS OF FIGURES in 03 at Saratoga, or that Shuman gets the same results other places that he got at his big GP meet, you are dreaming. That's why we have the "last 90 day" stat. And if you look at that stat at Delaware Park, you will see that 90% of the races are won by someone with a 20% or higher rating in that category.
So on a completely unrelated note, I think Baffert will have a tough time improving Iwinski's horse.
