I believe its undeniable: Pad on, bad; pad off, good. Someone out there is keeping records of trainers' performance first time pad off, second time pad off, pad on, second time pad on, etc.
Think a trainer ever added a pad to a sound horse solely (bad pun) to have public/ other trainers believe the animal was less than sound? Put this move in the larceny/ chicanery column.
I sometimes shamelessly request information from posters on this board and have been surprised at how many times I am able to get it. On Saturday, while once again predicting a smash up race from Voodoo (I'm still waiting) I asked the question: What percentage of graded stakes races (handicap or otherwise) are won by the lightweighted horse in the race?
I would be surprised if that was a number larger than 2%.
