The milkshake test and detention barn thing is a grain of sand in the "move up"desert. The move up combo, illegal powerful pain med and blood dope,is still undetected.Track managements have tossed a bone to the players on the whole drug issue.
The usual suspects continue to mock the system and track management seems complacent with shakes testing and detention barns.Up until the start of the Saratoga meet,we have tracked the results of the move up trainers since the implementation of shakes testing and the dentention barn. For the most part, the move up trainers are winning at the same rate pre testing and detention.
Believe it or not, I was personally disappointed when all the fuss was made about milkshakes. I am aware of milkshaking a horse for over 20 years from my harness days. For the most part, I think that shakes are really old news used by small time scumbags, imo.Milkshakes are NOT what makes most of the move up trainers win, in fact I doubt the trainers I think are cheating ever use shakes. It is something far more powerful than a shake and maybe not given on race day.
With New York getting slot money, it will be interesting to see what additional funds are provided to the test labs. Research and development funds are necessary to detect the illegal performance enhancers and to enable the test labs to stay ahead of the chemists who are making the "magic bullet"available to the move up trainers.
