On a weekend where nothing really caught my eye pari- mutuelly, and the weather
prevented many other conventional weekend options, I fooled around with a
couple of Derby War contests.
I found the website rather easy to navigate and very user friendly, and while
I did not cover myself in glory in any of the the 3 contests I played in, I
managed to keep myself occupied for a few hours.
Questions:
1)Will activity on sites such as this cut into what is left of [sup]*[/sup]
traditional pari-mutuel handle?
2) Does an operation such as Derby Wars have to pay some kind of tribute to
the racetracks whose races are used for these contests?
3) Has any racetrack or ADW tried to utilize a Derby Wars type platform?
Comment: My wagering preference is DD/P3/P4, and I did not see any contest
which included these type of wagers. So for now the traditional combination of
TVG (ugh) and ADW (with the occasional live visit to the track sprinkled in)
will remain the way things are done here in permafrosted Living Room Downs.

* I think on track handle at AQ on Wednesday was less than $500,000, the
lowest I've ever seen on a day when the entire race card was completed.
Hope Mr. Kay is enjoying his bonus somewhere warm.
