Tiger Silk is attempting to make her US debut – I say attempting because she has been a vet scratch three times already. She won a couple of times in NZ and Mandella has had her for some time now. Anyone have thoughts about how the Thorograph numbers from NZ translate to the US? I know that European TG figures are usually few points higher than US horses and a couple indicated in the last couple of weeks that they feel comfortable shaving off a few points in terms of their figures when they come to the US. This has sometimes been a point of contention. Whatever it is (slow pace, lack of Lasix, quality of competition, nature of the grass courses, something else or some combination) I usually feel confident that the figures earned in Europe can often be improved upon in the US, so I handicap with that in mind. But I am not sure about how the NZ horses transfer their numbers to the US generally. She gets Lasix as well and her figures look competitive. Mandella is OK off the layoff, she has likely matured since her last run, so I guess my question is does anyone have a feel for how the NZ figures translate to US racing?
