While not quite what you are asking for, TG has gone on record previously publicizing that a small percentage of Derby entrants run new tops on the 1st Saturday in May. If my memory serves me correctly. I've never considered it from the 126 lb angle before. Plausible.

To complicate matter this year the colts are a bit bigger and presumably stronger the 1st Saturday in September? Wishing we had horses' weight histories.
