While it is true that the ointment contains the valerate form of betamethasone and the injectable form commonly used for joint treatment is composed of the acetate form, it would not be difficult at all to hide the intra-articular use of betamethasone by formulating betamethasone valerate in an injectable medium, while simultaneously treating the skin condition with the legal medication that also contains betamethasone valerate. Betamethasone valerate is easily obtained from chemical supply companies. Showing that there was no betamethasone (as the acetate) while the valerate composition is present unfortunately doesn't clear Baffert. And the regulation limiting its use does not distinguish between any of the several available forms of betamethasone.
