Both old and new readers on the board have probably discovered I sometimes get caught up in the most precise details of handicapping that may keep one from seeing the forest but for the trees. :)
That said, a tidbit or two from tomorrow's Tampa card.
In the Sam F. Davis, Smoken Bay makes the Puerto Rico to Oldsmar ship that we see oh so often. Near undefeated, sent to D'Angelo, adds blinkers, gets Paco and has some works at PmM. Who knows what you will get. Jerry, do we have those CMR Thorograph figs ready to go?? Owner Sonata Stables is Mark Tacher and he owns part of the track in Puerto Rico.
Meanwhile, the only horse not Triple Crown nominated in the Sam F. Davis is Dr Ruben M, owned by The Del Mar Group. This one is trained by Doug O'Neill.
Earlier in the card, in Race 7, Maidens run 1 mile and 40 yards on dirt for 53k bucks in purse money. 3 of those 10 horses are TC noms. One of those is the 7 Maruvy, a $250k Omaha Beach purchase that has two ok runs at Turfway. This one is owned by . . . Sonata Stables . . . trained by Doug O'Neill . . . and ridden by Paco Lopez. I assume Sonata is a sporting gent seeking a nice horse and nominated multiple horses and maybe has a good relationship to have Paco on 2 of his horses for 2 different trainers? Nonetheless, it is an interesting web of connections in these two races. Below, I've copied the link for an article with some info about Sonata Stables if interested from a few years ago.
All of this detail likely means very little but that's ok. I enjoy finding these details when handicapping. :)
