That was a helluva race he ran in the Excelsior. Fogg showed versatility. Per his usual, he was going for the lead, but another horse was hell bent for leather to take it so... He gave it to him. He let him run off, then reeled him in. The TFigs had him down for much better recent efforts than other Figmakers. Thorograph tabbed as a win bet at 5-1. (Went off at 6)
Tend to think he really did run somewhere near a 2:01.
The TFigs also tended to reveal the Cheatforts in the S.A. Derby were not all up to sliced bread. Cheatfort said Citizen Bullshit needed a race. Well maybe, but he sure worked the hell out of him too. Seen many a Cheatfort run his best on that workout background.
What Really Happened in the Santa Anita Derby? Trainers need to take that race development and make it a template for how to deal with the Silver Vet. Analyzed the pace thoroughly. (How could you not there were 2 trainers, 1 Vet and 5 horses in the race!!!) Never foresaw Westwood getting to the lead by going around Citizen B.S. Never in a million years, barring stumble, but he did it. He took the game to the Silver Vet and made the treated horses run hard early. Westwood also did Not back out of it. He checked out of it when Citizen B.S. came in on him in desperation to get back to his game. Despite the check Westwood ran on. Shirreff's did not let the Silver Vet dictate the conditions.
On a related note the 3 million dollar Vetted purchase finished last. Lets ask an important question. What percentage of the years top sales horses are the owners at large putting into the care of the Silver Vet? The owners also need to stop allowing the Silver Vet to dictate the sales conditions. Give those horses to Journalism's trainer or Shirreffs.
