My very strong suspicion is that if he's was guilty of anything, it's was not realizing that some nefarious characters were using his good name & excellent reputation to gain credibility. He's as hard-working & honest as the day is long, & has been for a very long time. Nothing I've read suggests that he was involved in or knew what these characters were doing, so this is one time where you might want to exercise a little caution re what you say. It would be interesting to find out what exactly these characters were administering, as it seems very unlikely to have been a milkshake consisting of baking soda, sugar, & a sports drink, as reported in the not always reliable Daily News. Also, it's a little unclear how large, deductible gambling losses could be generated wagering offshore on fixed races. Perhaps some of the saps who ponied up $100k to join the fix club were being duped as well. It wouldn't be the 1st time that greed trumped common sense & good judgment, that's for sure.
