Bill Finley has written an intersting article about renaming certain
stakes races. While some of this is tongue in cheek (like namimg a
Monmouth race for Tony Soprano) he does have a point that
there are no graded stakes named after the Triple Crown winner Seatle
Slew, though they should not change the name of the Wood.
My personal opinion, not mentioned in the article, which I would like
to add, is that they should go back to calling the Lane's End the Jim
Beam. How can you not have a major Derby prep in Kentuckey named after a
bourbon?. The Southwest Stakes is really run at Oaklawn in the south, not the
southwest. How about changing it to the Southern Comfort? LOL.
