your premise is that "The super trainers with their vets have not won the Derby thus their elixir doesnt work on maturing 3YO's"
I'm not sure theres enough data to draw that conclusion. And although to my mind the super vet era begins in 2000 after the triple crown races, I'm not sure the super vets haven't already scored the Derby.
If we restrict our super vet inquiry to White Mercedes and the Gang of Four, correct, Pletcher, Frankel, Asmussen and Dutrow have not come up with the Derby. Frankel does have a Belmont, and that one used both Juice and Ambush.
It may be that your premise is correct. It may be that developing horses get more benefit from nature than chemistry. They are certainly growing like weeds and progressing by leaps and bounds at this time. The reality may be that chemicals and the syringe are not going to help them as much as it does when they are mature muscled animals.
