Because Chuckles is such a sick puppy, I hesitate to respond to him, because like all dumb animals he will only be encouraged to continue to behave irresponsibly.
But I am going to indluge him this one time.
Lawyer Ron, when trained by Bob Holthus, was a run off in the mornings and lots of times in the afternoon. He was ridden by an inadequate exercise rider. I like Bob, but he can be a stubborn old guy and, although warned about this, he continued to use the same person.
The reason it has taken Todd Pletcher so long to get Lawyer ron to respond as he did on Saturday, is that it has been a long, tedious process to get the colt to become kind enough to use his enormous talent.
When I bought Lawyer Ron for his current vast majority owner, the guy wanted him to stand at stud this year. I advised against it and told him to give Pletcher enough time to work with the colt, because I felt he would achieve the results he did last weekend. The colt probably triple or quadrupled his stud fee in that one race.
