I don't understand the question. The implication must be that Pletcher times the races of his horses also. I don't know why he would bother doing that unless he doesn't trust the teletimer and/or various figure makers though.
I'm not sure why this is such a big issue other than the track record.
We've seen this about a thousand times already.
It couldn't be more obvious that Jerry (and many other figure makers) are right on the issue of tracks changing speed due to moisture, maintenance, and other factors. In addition:
Teletimers sometimes malfunction.
The wind gusts.
The length of the run up changes.
The pace can affect final time.
Drafting can affect time.
The development and competitive nature of the race can affect time.
Figure makers sort through all these issues and use a methodolgy for estimating how fast or well horses ran on any given day. They'll do the same thing for the Whitney.
