Saturday's San Diego Union Tribune carried some quotes from Mullins I found amusing:

Jeff Mullins is adamant that the reason his horses have been given those substances was not to win races but to relieve their stomach ulcers and promote their well-being.

"It's not like we're talking about morphine – things that aren't healthy for a horse," said Mullins, who ranks ninth in the nation with $640,950 in earnings this year through Thursday, according to equibase.com. "This (alkalizing substances) is healthy for a horse. I think to a point, it probably does enhance performance, but it's my job to keep the horse healthy."

"I think my (staff) were overloading with the stomach medication," Mullins said, explaining the reason for exceeding the threshold. "We're trying to find out where the problem lies. This is my livelihood. This is the only thing I know. I'm not going to jeopardize that, and I wouldn't do that on purpose."
