Milkshakes can also cover the presence of other drugs in the horse...and with some of these scratches - specifically the trainer in this thread - I think the scratches are more likely due to the detection of the "other" stuff without the milkshakes there.
The 3rd trainer who had the positive - but has not been publically identified nor "fined" per the current rules - is rumored to be the trainer of a Grade 1 winning 3 yr old filly - probably the top 3 yr old filly - and it's not hard to figure out who that would be. In this instance - and because of the delay - I'm wondering if the "other" stuff was discovered.
In any event, I see no value in trying to figure out what any of the California horses can do with or without additives - let alone who is using and who isn't. The even sadder part is that whatever happens now has NO FINANCIAL repercussions - and they can keep the purses and the betting profits until the CHRB adds milkshakes to the list...maybe someone next year!
