Just back to hotel from the shed.. There was no harm done. Kent overslept and tried to reach Trombetta repeatedly.. Mike showed me his cellphone with "Kent, Kent, Kent, Kent" on it, but the phone never actually rang... (I've been having the same trouble with mine.)
It worked out fine. Borel was perfect and Willie Martinez helped with Fleet Ballad, SNS's workmate who goes in an ALW on the undercard. They gave Mike EXACTLY what he asked them for down to within a fifth of a second for the internals. Trombetta couldn't have been happier and if something were to happen to Desormeaux between now and next Saturday, he has another backup rider.
Trombetta, Ted Theos, Ernesto and Gordon were all thrilled with the work after a couple of anxious moments. In the meantime, Saint takes everything in stride and is as happy as can be. He's a delight to be around.
Theos headed back to MD this p.m. and I'll be taking the group to dinner tonight to give them a taste of the Derby atmosphere.
In other Barn 42 news, Jazil and Flashy Bull are next door to Saint and look good. Jazil in particular has filled out really nicely since I saw him last at Palm Meadows. Still as gentle as can be... Bull is dappled out and "ready", but Kieran is really concerned now about getting him in with Ramsey talking about wheeling Dawn of War back next week after today's Trial, and Mr. Triester potentially getting the Don't Get Mad treatment as well. McLaughlin said "I'd never do it, but I could enter Henny Hughes, Like Now and get Discreet Cat entered and then scratch them all Thursday. It's time to think about using the Breeders Cup system for this race."
Elsewhere, Cause to Believe did not work well today, and Bluegrass Cat made a less than wonderful impression as well. I missed Lawyer Ron out there.
